Centre for Kurdish Progress & Solidarity Action Fringe
Women, Life, Freedom: The Kurdish Role in the Middle East's Democratic Movement

At this year’s Labour Party Annual Conference, the Centre for Kurdish Progress and Solidarity Action hosted a powerful fringe event exploring the slogan and movement “Women, Life, Freedom” (Jin, Jiyan, Azadî) and the central role of Kurdish women in Iran and the wider Middle East in the struggle for democracy.

The discussion highlighted how a call for liberation born in Kurdistan became the rallying cry of a nationwide uprising in Iran, uniting diverse communities against state repression. Speakers reflected on the sacrifices made by Kurdish women and activists, their resistance to violence, and their vision for a more democratic and inclusive future for Iran.

Speakers included:

  • Rojda Pervane, Roj Women’s Association UK

  • Virendra Sharma, Labour MP for Ealing Southall

  • Chair: Steve Yemm MP

The event drew a strong audience of Labour members, activists, and allies who engaged in a thoughtful discussion on solidarity, gender equality, and the international implications of the Kurdish-led struggle.

The Centre for Kurdish Progress thanks all participants and attendees for contributing to this timely and urgent conversation.
