Standing with the Kurds: Advancing Justice, Empowering Autonomy, and Rebuilding a New Syria

At the 2025 Labour Party Annual Conference, the Centre for Kurdish Progress, in partnership with the Syrian Democratic Council and Solidarity Action, hosted an important discussion on the future of North and East Syria.

The event spotlighted the Kurdish-led model of grassroots democracy, where communities have worked to build inclusive institutions based on gender equality, pluralism, and local self-governance. Amid continued regional instability and international uncertainty, the speakers highlighted both the achievements of this democratic experiment and the urgent challenges it faces.

Contributions focused on how the UK and international partners can play a constructive role in advancing justice, safeguarding autonomy, and supporting a long-term vision of a democratic, pluralistic Syria.
