Lord Maurice Glasman

Maurice Glasman, Baron Glasman, is a British political theorist, academic, and Labour life peer in the House of Lords.

He is best known as the founder of the Blue Labour movement, which advocates for a blend of socialist and conservative values, emphasising community, tradition, and the dignity of labour.

Born on 8 March 1961 in Walthamstow, London, Glasman was raised in a Jewish working-class family. He studied Modern History at St Catharine's College, Cambridge, followed by an MA in Political Philosophy from the University of York and a PhD from the European University Institute in Florence. His academic work focuses on the relationship between citizenship, faith, and the limits of the market.

Glasman's political philosophy draws inspiration from thinkers like Aristotle and Karl Polanyi. He has been a senior lecturer in Political Theory at London Metropolitan University and Director of its Faith and Citizenship Programme.

In recognition of his contributions, Glasman was created a life peer in 2011, taking the title Baron Glasman of Stoke Newington and of Stamford Hill. He continues to be an influential voice in British politics, advocating for policies that strengthen local communities and promote social justice.
